Top 5 Tips for Looking After Your Garden Fence

Fencing is an important part of any property, a well kept fence adds value, privacy, security and style, however an old and tired fence quickly draws negative attention.

No fencing lasts forever, and all comes with an average life expectancy – providing it is looked after! Prolong the life of your garden fence with our top 5 tips, and save yourself the expense of replacing it a lot sooner than you’d like.

1. Make sure you have the equipment

Get all of your equipment and tools needed before starting the job, depending on the age and condition of your fence you may decide you need some, or all of the following:

  • Power washer or hose
  • Wood stain
  • Brushes/rollers
  • Protective sheets
  • Bleach or wood treatment

2. Protect your garden

With different solutions, bleach and power washers being used, we advise to cover up surrounding grass, plants and garden furniture!

3. Clean

Over the years your fence will gather dirt, moss and mildew. Using a power washer will dislodge any build-up, and help to remove dead surface wood, which will also reduce the likelihood of rot or damp. If you don’t have a power washer, then a hose should work just as well.

To make things easier, you can buy a wood cleaning solution to loosen up the dirt on your fence panels.

4. Let the wood dry

It is very important to allow the wood to dry completely before putting a new seal on it.

5. Protect your fence panels

Use wood stain or exterior wood paint, any normal paint won’t offer the protection and treatment like a wood stain designed specifically for this purpose. Allow to dry for 24 hours before applying a second coat if needed.

Repeat as needed, usually every couple of years but others last longer. You can also help to prolong the life of your fence by clearing leaves, grass and overgrown plants from around the base of the panels, as vegetation rots it can spread through the fence.

If you look after your fence, it can last a lot longer than you think!

To replace your fence panels, or have a new fence installed, get in touch. We offer free quotes, photos of each style, and recommendations to help you make the right choice. As a local business based in Nantwich, we are ideally based in the centre of the county giving us easy access to Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and surrounding areas. We have been installing fencing for years, supplied with quality timber from trusted UK suppliers. Call us on 01270 619 147.

These are among the most popular fencing installments we provide, and we expect many more throughout the year.

Take a look at our website for more detail, or give us a call and we will be happy to discuss the best type of fencing to suit your needs. With the continuing demand for new housing, Suddenstrike Fencing have been working with a number of housing developers to supply and install domestic fencing and metal fencing. The domestic fencing is used for creating boundaries between the gardens of each house, the most popular choice being featheredge boarded fencing which provides excellent security and privacy. Metal estate fencing is often used on new housing estates as perimeter fencing around the edge of the development, and along the edge of roads, pathways, or park areas.

Coming up to Christmas we completed a post & rail fencing job in Cheshire, and the new year has welcomed an increasing number of enquiries for this type of fencing. Many farmers, landowners and equestrian properties want to get their fencing work booked in and completed before the summer months. Our post & rail fencing can be tailored to suit your needs, we offer a range of posts with varying costs and lifespans, and we can also install the fencing with added wire, barbed wire or netting.

BUSINESS BOOMING FOR SUDDENSTRIKE FENCING

Business is booming for Cheshire-based Suddenstrike Fencing to the extent that the firm has outgrown its existing one acre yard in Cheshire.

Founder and MD Steve Wilkinson commented: “We’ve been at the current site for five years but have totally outgrown the premises as the demand for Suddenstrike fencing services continues to grow, we have therefore recently purchased a three acre site nearby; there’s a lot of work to be done before we can actually move in, but we are hoping to move in soon! This will allow the company to continue to expand and progress.”

It’s not just the premises that are on the move! Suddenstrike Fencing, who deliver a wide range of quality fencing services to the agricultural, equine and wildlife market, have also recently invested in a new 18 tonne beaver tail Scania wagon to be able to transport the equipment more efficiently, this adds to their existing equipment that includes two Bryce HD180 post drivers.

Steve went on: “We’re the only contractors in the UK to have two Bryce HD180 post drivers and I honestly would not be without them. They are fantastic machines that are currently working flat out on a daily basis; it is an amazing sight when on a big job you see two of them working in tandem, one putting the straining posts in and the other following up installing the intermediates.

“The majority of our business comes from within a 50 mile radius of our office where there is a lot of agricultural, equine and wildlife land that requires high quality fencing,” he added.

Steve continued “We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all our suppliers including Jock Bryce at Bryce Suma, Allan Froggatt at Profencer, Hillary at Tornado, Jason at Hotline and Justin at KiwiKit from where we purchase our materials, tools and equipment.

“Our timber suppliers, including Balcas, M&M Timber and Hales Sawmills, who also play a pivotal role in our success and, finally, Simone from Fencing News whose advice and help in recent times has proved invaluable.

“Without the support and advice from these people, our company would not be as successful as it is today.

“Our motto is ‘the best in the field‘, this is more than just words; when you buy the best equipment from the best suppliers then it becomes a lot less difficult to deliver the best possible product, installation and service!” concluded Steve.

FIRST FOR SUDDENSTRIKE FENCING WITH SECOND BRYCE

Cheshire-based Suddenstrike fencing Ltd has recently become the first business in the UK to operate two Bryce HD180 powershift.

Steve Wilkinson from Suddenstrike Fencing explained: “This is the second HD180 we’ve purchased in the past twelve months and both have been acquired without even meeting the man behind it all, Jock Bryce!

“We eventually caught up with Jock at the APF show in September and it was great to finally meet the man himself together with wife Jennifer and sons, Andrew and Stuart.

“It was amazing to see the variety of machines that they had on display. All were suitable for different applications and it’s not until you see the variety of machinery and the various accessories that you realise the Bryce family’s commitment to innovation and perfection in each and every application. This machine is certainly unique in every way.

“In my opinion the HD180 has the greatest hitting power, manoeuvrability and accuracy of any other machine that I have seen and I would like to thank Jock and his family for completely revolutionising the way in which we carry out professional fence installation,” added Steve.

Situated in Nantwich, Suddenstrike Ltd carries out a wide range of fencing, groundworks and drainage work around the UK as well as pest control, habitat management and environmental cleaning.

SUDDENSTRIKE FENCING MAKE A STAND

Suddenstrike Fencing based in Nantwich Cheshire had a very successful day at the Nantwich Agricultural Show recently.

Nantwich Show is Promoted as the largest one day agricultural show in the country, Suddenstrike Fencing opted to showcase their business with a stand that proved very successful with visitors and judges.

Suddenstrike Fencing MD Steve Wilkinson commented: “We put a lot of hard work, effort and attention to detail, to showcase our business and to make the stand as effective as possible. This was appreciated by the judges who awarded us first prize for the best large agricultural stand and its contents.”

“One of the main attractions on the stand was our Bryce HD180, visitors to the stand were interested in the engineering and the unique capabilities of this machine.”

“We also held a competition to guess the weight of the machine and raised £500.00 for our local charity St Lukes Hospice.”

“Our ProFencer was also an attraction on the stand. Customers didn’t realise that you could safely and efficiently unroll and tighten 500m rolls of wire.”

“I would like to thank Jock Bryce for the Bryce HD180, Allan Froggatt for the ProFencer, Tornado Wire, M&M Timber, Hampton Steel, Hales Sawmills, McVeigh Parker and Hutton Garden Products. Along with our efforts, it was the quality of the products that we purchase from these suppliers that made the day possible. I would like to thank them all for their continued support,” added Steve.

nantwich_show_st_lukesNEWS RELEASE: Firms plays guessing game for good cause

A FAMILY business is making its debut at the Nantwich Show by raising money for St Luke’s Hospice.

Suddenstrike of Welshman’s Lane is staging a competition asking visitors to guess the weight of its latest piece of equipment. A massive Bryce post-driver was part of a £100,000 investment in its fencing division launched in spring.

The company, which was founded as a pest control specialist in 1997, has grown to include other divisions for drain care, fencing, groundwork and specialist heavy duty cleaning. Staff numbers have swelled from six to 16 as new contracts have been secured with farms, country estates and local authorities across the country.

Spokeswoman Emily Adams said: “Over the past year we have invested heavily in manpower and machinery. “The Bryce HD180 post driver, for example, has won many awards and was a huge investment, but allows us to carry out a faster and more cost effective job for the customer. “Our workload is now spread countrywide and we have many regular clients locally. “It’s a success story we would to share with local people but rather than just having a stand at the show, we thought we would make it a worthwhile outing for charity also. “Our family originated from Darnhall near Winsford so the hospice is a cause close to our hearts.”

A magnum of champagne will be on offer to the visitor who guesses the weight of the post-driver correctly.
