Poultry fencing for Cheshire and surrounding counties
If installed correctly poultry fences are extremely effective at ensuring poultry remains contained whilst keeping predators such as foxes out.
Suddenstrike has recently completed a project for a local free range poultry farm, installing 1,000m of fence line around the unit.
Poultry fencing is not just limited to purpose built predator fences. In some situations it may not be practical or economical. Other options include electric netting and hexagonal wire netting commonly known as chicken wire.
All materials in our fences are from top names within the industry and are installed by our expert teams. All wooden materials are from sustainable managed woodlands to FSC standards and are available either pressure or creosote treated for a longer life span.
Types of poultry fencing include:
Predator fencing for poultry
This type of fencing is ideal for free range and organic poultry farms. The fence is constructed using timber posts driven in to the ground and then clad with a mesh which uses smaller patterns preventing poultry from escaping or predators from entering. At the top of the fence the mesh can be turned outwards or strands of electric wire may be installed to prevent predators from jumping or climbing over the fence. The base of the fence is then turned out at ground level to prevent predators such as badgers from creating holes for foxes to enter. Additional strands of electric wire are added to the base of the fence and the mid section of the fence to prevent foxes from climbing over.
Examples of mesh available to construct a poultry pen include standard galvanised weld mesh along with systems available from Tornado Wire and X™Fence®.
Hexagonal wire netting/chicken netting
Ideal for smaller situations, hexagonal wire netting is a cost effective solution to keeping poultry contained. The chicken netting is attached to timber posts driven in to the ground, with a strand of electric wire added around the top and bottom of the fence to deter predators from climbing or jumping the fence. All mesh is galvanised or treated to prolong the life span of the wire.
Electric fencing for poultry
When installed correctly, electric poultry fencing is the most cost effective and efficient poultry fencing available. There are many types of electric poultry fencing available such as permanent fencing whereby treated timber posts are driven in to the ground and then multiple strands of plain high tensile wire attached and electrified, or more temporary systems such as electric poultry nets.
